One company card per ad account, each with its own limit.

"Facebook ads payment method not working" and "facebook ads payment methods in pakistan" are some of the most searched questions from agencies outside the US. When the payment fails, the campaign stops, and repeated failures can restrict the ad account itself.

How Meta charges ad accounts

Meta bills ad accounts in one of two ways, depending on the account and country:

  • Automatic payments: Meta charges your card when spend reaches a billing threshold, and on your monthly billing date for anything below it. Thresholds rise as the account builds a payment history.
  • Prepaid funds: you add money in advance where that option is available, and ads spend it down.

The payment methods you can add depend on the ad account's country and currency.

Why cards get declined

ReasonFix
Balance too low when Meta chargedKeep enough for the next threshold, not just today's spend
Card blocks online or foreign transactionsAsk the issuer to allow them, or use a card built for it
Daily or per-transaction limit on the cardRaise it above the billing threshold
Billing name or address mismatchMatch the card's billing details exactly
Card type not acceptedSome prepaid cards are refused; use a business card
Currency mismatchSet the ad account currency to the currency the card spends

Avoiding ad account restrictions

Failed payments are one of the signals Meta uses when it restricts accounts. Once restricted, you may need to appeal, which takes time. Prevent it:

  1. One card per ad account, so a problem on one does not spread.
  2. A limit on each card a little above the ad account's threshold.
  3. Balance topped up before big campaign days.
  4. Billing details that match the business.

For agencies outside the US

Ad accounts billed in USD and paid with a local-currency card cost a conversion on every charge, and many local cards have foreign-spend limits. A USD card funded from a USD balance, ideally the same balance US clients pay into, avoids both. The virtual dollar cards guide and virtual cards for ad spend go further.

On Rivet

Rivet includes unlimited digital cards on every plan. Issue one per ad account, set its limit, and fund it from your company's USD balance. If an ad account is compromised, freeze that card in a click. See Cards.

Questions people ask

What payment methods does Facebook accept for ads?

Credit and debit cards in most countries, and depending on the ad account's country and currency, options such as PayPal, direct debit, local payment methods and prepaid funds. Meta shows the available options when you add a payment method.

Why is my card declined on Facebook ads?

Usually because the balance was too low at the moment Meta charged, the card has a limit or block on online or foreign transactions, the billing details do not match, or the card type is not accepted. Check with the card issuer and in Meta's Billing and payments.

What payment methods work for Facebook ads in Pakistan or Nigeria?

International debit or credit cards that allow foreign online transactions are the usual choice. Local bank cards may have limits on foreign spend set by the bank or central bank. A USD card funded from a USD balance avoids conversion on USD-billed accounts.

Can I use a virtual card for Facebook ads?

Yes, if the card is accepted for online payments and has enough balance when Meta charges. Business virtual cards with a stable billing address are declined less often than personal prepaid cards.
