Founders abroad

Foreign founders can be directors and shareholders. Banks verify them under FICA, and exchange control rules apply to foreign shareholdings and loans.

After registration

The company needs a rand business account and, if it trades abroad, an authorised dealer relationship for foreign payments.

Where Rivet fits

Rivet serves registered companies in supported countries. South African exchange control decides whether a South African company may hold proceeds abroad, so Rivet does not pitch offshore accounts to South African-registered companies. Rivet is not a bank; regulated partner institutions hold the funds. See best business bank account in South Africa.

Questions people ask

How do I register a company in South Africa?

Online at CIPC: reserve a name or register with the number as name, file the MOI and directors, and pay the fee.

Does the company get a tax number?

CIPC registration usually triggers income tax registration with SARS. VAT and PAYE are separate.

What is beneficial ownership filing?

Companies must file details of individuals who own or control them with CIPC, and keep them current.

Can foreigners register a South African company?

Yes. Foreign directors and shareholders are allowed. Banks will still verify everyone under FICA.
