Some corporate cards are underwritten on the company's cash and revenue, with no personal credit check or guarantee. They usually need a funded US bank account. Prefunded cards need neither.

A Rivet note explaining EIN-only corporate cards beside the US flag.

"Corporate credit card ein only" is one of the top completions after "corporate credit card". Founders ask because they do not want to sign a personal guarantee, or have no US credit history.

Three kinds of card

Prefunded cardNoneNo

Who qualifies for EIN-only charge cards

Providers such as Brex and Ramp underwrite on the company's balance, revenue and funding. Limits move with the balance. A new LLC with $10,000 in the bank may get a small limit or a decline.

The prefunded option

A prefunded card draws on money already in the company's account. Nothing is lent, so there is no credit review. The control is the per-card limit. For new companies, foreign-owned LLCs and teams that want hard limits, it is often the simplest choice.

What to compare

  1. Who qualifies.
  2. Fees: per user, per card, FX.
  3. Controls: per-card limits, merchant locks, approvals.
  4. Currencies the card can spend from.

Questions people ask

Can I get a business credit card with only an EIN?

Some corporate card providers underwrite on company cash and revenue instead of personal credit. Approval depends on your balance and history.

Do traditional business credit cards need a personal guarantee?

Most do. Small business cards from banks usually check the owner's personal credit and make them personally liable.

What is a prefunded card?

A card that spends money already in the company's account. There is nothing to repay, so there is no credit check.

Can a foreign-owned LLC get an EIN-only card?

It depends on the provider's eligibility rules. Many require US-resident owners or a US bank account with history.
