German banks, Sparkassen and digital providers all offer business accounts, but some digital ones serve only freelancers. A GmbH needs one that accepts companies and fits how it gets paid.

"Best business bank account Germany" and "free business bank account Germany" lead Google's German suggestions in English. The answer depends first on a question most lists skip: does the provider accept your legal form?

The international question

A Berlin software company with US customers gets paid in dollars. On a German account, a US client's payment arrives by SWIFT and converts to euros at the bank's rate. With USD details, the client pays by ACH and the company converts when it wants, or pays US costs from the dollars.

A common setup

A German account for taxes, payroll, direct debits and the Finanzamt, plus a multi-currency account for USD and GBP clients and payouts abroad.

Questions people ask

What is the best business bank account in Germany?

For a GmbH with local customers, a Sparkasse, Volksbank or major bank gives lending and branch service. For an online business, a digital company account is cheaper and faster. For international clients, add a multi-currency account.

Can a GmbH use N26 or Kontist?

Some digital accounts target freelancers and sole traders only. Check each provider's eligibility for corporations before applying.

Do I need DATEV export?

Many German accountants work in DATEV. An account that exports to it or connects saves bookkeeping time.

Does the business account need to be in Germany?

A GmbH can bank with an EU provider with a non-German IBAN; SEPA treats it the same. Some authorities and partners prefer a DE IBAN.
