Verification of payee

Since 9 October 2025, euro-area banks check that the name you enter matches the IBAN. A mismatch warning is often the first sign of invoice fraud, so take it seriously.

A month for an Eindhoven hardware startup

  • Pays a German supplier €30,000 by SEPA Instant: no extra cost.
  • Pays a US component distributor $20,000 by SWIFT: fee, margin, possible intermediary charge.
  • Pays a UK contractor £5,000: conversion plus transfer fee.

Ways to cut it

  1. Hold currencies you pay often.
  2. Pay on the recipient's local rail where your provider supports it.
  3. Use OUR for invoice payments.
