# JoFotara: Jordan's national e-invoicing system and what businesses must do

Jordan's ISTD runs JoFotara, the national e-invoicing system. Who must use it, how invoices are issued and registered, and what applies to exports.

## Key takeaways

- JoFotara is Jordan's national electronic invoicing system, run by the Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD).
- Businesses issue invoices through JoFotara's portal or connect their own systems to it.
- Invoices carry a QR code that allows verification with the ISTD.
- Export invoices to foreign clients are also issued through the system, with the applicable sales tax treatment.

An Amman engineering consultancy issues its invoices through JoFotara. Each one, whether to a Jordanian ministry, a Jordanian contractor or a client in Riyadh, is registered with the Income and Sales Tax Department and carries a QR code. The Saudi client receives a PDF; the ISTD already has the data.

## What JoFotara is

JoFotara is Jordan's national e-invoicing system, operated by the ISTD. It registers invoices electronically so the tax authority can match sales across businesses and reduce evasion. Each invoice carries a QR code linked to the ISTD's records.

## Who uses it

The ISTD rolled the obligation out in phases across taxpayers. Check your registration and the date that applies to your business on the ISTD's portal.

## How invoices are issued

Two options:

- the JoFotara web portal, suitable for businesses with lower invoice volumes,
- integration of your accounting or ERP system with JoFotara through the ISTD's specifications.

## Exports

Invoices to foreign clients are issued through the system too, identifying the foreign client and applying the sales tax treatment for exports. Keep contracts and evidence of export to support the treatment.

## The payment side

JoFotara changes how invoices are registered, not how clients pay. Foreign clients still pay Jordanian accounts by international transfer. US, EU and UK clients pay faster on their own domestic rails.

## Paying into Jordan: the local rail

| What | Detail |
|---|---|
| Local rail | CliQ instant payments |
| Run by | JoPACC, under the Central Bank of Jordan |
| Settlement | Seconds, 24/7 |

## Where Rivet fits

Rivet does not issue JoFotara invoices. A Rivet business account accepts registered companies after verification, including Jordanian companies, subject to local rules, with US account details on every plan and euro and sterling details from the Growth plan. Rivet is not a bank; regulated partner institutions hold the funds.
