# Best bank for international wire transfers for a US business

Compare international wire fees for US businesses: Mercury, Bluevine, BILL, Melio and multi-currency accounts, with the exchange rate cost most lists leave out.

## Key takeaways

- Mercury lists $0 for USD international wires and 1% when the wire converts; Bluevine lists up to $25 plus up to 1.5% in foreign currency.
- BILL charges $19.99 for an international USD wire, and Melio $20 for a global ACH in USD.
- A USD wire pushes conversion onto the recipient's bank, which often takes its own margin and sometimes an intermediary fee.
- For regular payments, a local payout in the recipient's currency usually costs less than any wire.

Google completes "best bank for international wire" with "transfers", "transfers in usa" and "transfers reddit". Most answers rank banks by the wire fee. For a business, the fee is rarely the biggest cost. Figures below were read on each provider's page on 4 November 2026.

## What US business accounts charge

| | Wire fee | Conversion |
|---|---|---|
| Mercury | $0 USD international; $15 for OUR | 1% |
| Bluevine | Up to $25 per international payment | Up to 1.5% |
| BILL | $19.99 international USD wire | Exchange rate applies |
| Melio | $20 global ACH in USD | Conversion rates apply |

## The cost you do not see

Send $10,000 to a supplier in Germany in US dollars, and the supplier's bank converts it. Its margin might be 1% to 3%, and an intermediary bank may take $15 to $30 on the way. The supplier receives less than the invoice and asks you to make up the difference.

Send it in euros and your provider converts. Now the margin is yours to compare: 1% on Mercury, up to 1.5% on Bluevine, less on a multi-currency account.

## Wires or local payouts

A SWIFT wire passes through correspondent banks. A local payout pays the recipient through their country's own system, such as SEPA in Europe or Faster Payments in the UK. It is usually faster, has no intermediary fees and arrives in full.

## A quick check before each payment

1. Ask the recipient which currency they want.
2. Compare your provider's rate to the mid-market rate.
3. Choose OUR terms on a wire if the full amount must arrive.
4. Use a local rail if your provider has one for that country.

## Paying into the United States: the local rail

| What | Detail |
|---|---|
| Local rail | ACH for batch payments; RTP and FedNow for instant transfers |
| Run by | Nacha for ACH; The Clearing House for RTP; the Federal Reserve for FedNow |
| Settlement | Same-day ACH within the business day, standard ACH the next; RTP and FedNow in seconds, 24/7, where both banks take part |

## Questions

### Which bank has the lowest international wire fees?

Among the accounts we checked, Mercury lists $0 for USD international wires. The total cost still includes the exchange rate, which Mercury prices at 1% when it converts.

### Is it better to send USD or local currency?

If you send USD, the recipient's bank converts it at its own rate. If you send local currency, your provider converts it. Compare the rate you get against the mid-market rate either way.

### What is an OUR wire?

On OUR terms the sender pays all charges, including intermediary fees, so the recipient receives the full amount. Mercury offers this for a flat $15.

### How long does an international wire take?

Most SWIFT payments arrive within one to two business days. Delays usually come from compliance checks, cut-off times or missing details.
